Teaching Philosophy:
I see teaching as helping students become more confident in their thinking. My role is not only to teach design skills and tools, but to create a space where students feel comfortable experimenting, asking questions, making mistakes, and trying again. I think of the classroom as a community of critical tinkerers, where students learn through making, discussion, and from one another.
In my courses, I encourage students to think about the relationship between concept, context, and form. I often ask them not only what they are making, but why they make certain decisions and whom they design for. Critique, feedback, and revision are important parts of this process. I want students to understand that good design rarely happens in one attempt; it develops through testing, reflection, and refinement.
Students also come to the classroom with different experiences and levels of confidence. I try to give them different ways to participate, share ideas, and find their own voice. As tools and technologies continue to change, I want students to leave my classroom with more than technical skills. I want them to be able to think critically, communicate their ideas, adapt, and trust their own creative decisions.
