Commemoration of Shiraz's
old businesses
This project is a personal exploration inspired by the carved tombstones of Dar-al-Salam Cemetery in Shiraz, where symbols of traditional trades such as copper smithing, glassmaking, and pottery are preserved in stone. These motifs reflect the city’s cultural and economic history, with many neighborhoods still named after these professions. The work translates these historic symbols into contemporary visual communication, envisioning future collaborations with cultural institutions and potential public installations across the city. The challenge lies in balancing modern design language with the emotional and spiritual weight of these forms, requiring sensitive interpretation and community awareness. Through a human-centered design approach, the project aims to honor local craftsmanship while making it accessible to new generations.
