Corizan Children Syrup

For the practical component of my dissertation, the packaging for Corizan Children’s Cold Syrup, an OTC product by Abidi Pharmaceutical Company, was redesigned using a user-centered and research-based approach. Since parents and children encounter this product directly on the pharmacy shelf, the design needed to communicate symptoms, trust, and reassurance immediately. The process combined theoretical research on criteria for value-added packaging, iterative sketching of gentle facial illustrations to represent different symptoms, and a color palette that balanced medical clarity with warmth. The final system extended across the entire cough and cold line and was exhibited in the 3rd Biennial of Iranian Packaging Designers.

Symptoms

One of the main challenges in this project was addressing children’s psychological resistance to taking medicine, which is common in pediatric care. The packaging features an illustration of a sick child on the front panel to clearly show symptoms such as fever, cough, and runny nose. Inside the box, a happy and healthy child is depicted to symbolize recovery and create a more reassuring experience for young users. This progression from illness to wellness helps reduce anxiety and supports a more positive interaction with the product.
